Hey kids!

Hello, all! Your friendly local neighbourhood short story fella is back. I used to be shadowsaine, but don't worry too much -- I changed my LJ handle; I am not a Scary New Mod.

Summer is nearly here, and from the looks of my friends list, summer is the season to write. Well, outside of November, and outside of your ranked cries of 'But we write all the time!' -- of course we do; we're writers. Still, it does definitely seem like summer is the time to pick up a pen, or a laptop, and get things down on paper or screen.

So, after months of silence (I can only apologise for the lack of prompts!), I'm throwing open the floor to you all. Drop in a comment to let me know you're still here; talk about what you've been writing lately, and tell me what you want to see here to get Shortest Story back off the ground and thriving. Any ideas at all, however daft you may think them to be, toss 'em in there. (I grant you 'Post prompts a bit more reliably, Falx' is a bit of a given. I shall do my utmost).

As for me, to get the ball rolling, I've been working on the oft-restarted Novel That Isn't: a fantasy-political-horror-drama genre-crosser featuring more vampires than I want to admit to and more intrigue than I sometimes think I have the skill to write. Shorter stories have been rather slow in the coming lately, which is part of why I'm keen to get some community spirit going around here...

So, come on, shout up, get involved, tell your friends. We've got, if I may say, a rather good concept here, and I know you're all great writers, so tell me how we can make it work. Inquiring minds wish to know!

All the best, and keep writing!

Prompts - March 1 2009

Please, people, start kicking me when I forget these things!

Here's your four for this week. As ever, feel free to post up your responses in a separate entry, comment on other folks' offerings, and have fun. :]

Famous
Vanity
Bypass
Protector

My apologies, all. I'm only a day behind time..

Thin Ice
Deep Snow
Microcosm
The Old Ways

The first two, at least, are inspired by the horrendous weather I've got in my area. The entire north-east of England is under a Met Office severe weather warning; we've had snow coming down solidly all day, and it's two or three feet deep in places. We're all being utterly pathetic: hardly anybody dares drive and the county's coming to a bit of a standstill. About the only one I know who's really happy is my dog, who's built for snow...

Have at it, folks! Feel free to share in a separate entry.

Prompt January 26 2009

Four for this week, as usual, with a twist on the last one:

Album
Portrait
Exams
Words on the page
or Words on the screen,
depending on your chosen time period to write within (I don't think the Tudor had screens, but you might find more inspiration in, say, an IM conversation or a Word document than a letter or book. Let your imagination run wild!).

As always, feel free to share your stories in a separate entry, and remember writers love feedback. Good luck!

Ceasefire

Ceasefire reminded me of the Northern Irish conflict. This is told from Conor, a Northern Irish catholics point of view.

Prompts - January 19 2009

Someone kick me up the bum when I forget these damn things, please? pinikir takes the arsekicking prizes this week.

Ceasefire
Diary
Reunion
Raw

Have fun, and we'd love to see if you care to share in a separate entry.

First prompts of 2009, folks!

Happy New Year to all our members and watchers! Here's to the best of health and happiness for 2009.

This week's prompts are as follows:
House Pet
Open Window
Half Hidden
Immoral

Feel free to share in a separate post, and why not try and comment on someone else's writing this week? One of my resolutions is to try and offer more critique to fellow writers, so let's all try and share the love. As ever, I eagerly await your responses!

Sorry, folks. Here we go with prompts for the weekend just gone:

Sinner
Espionage
By Any Means Necessary
Fresh Start

As always, feel free to share your snippets in a separate post, and happy new year to all!
